Top 7 grad photo spots.
U of G has some of the most beautiful architecture and greenery in Canada, and in my totally unbiased opinion the prettiest campus in the country 🤷♂️. Here are the spots that actually make your photos feel like yours, counted down.
Seven is the short list. If you want every spot we use, all fifty are on Guelph grad backdrops, zone by zone.
7. Your college building.
Right where your Guelph journey went down: those familiar halls, the quad, the walls you walked past every day. This is the backdrop that says “this is my story.” No one else’s degree happened exactly where yours did, and that specificity is the whole point.
6. The U of G sign.
A must-have for the classic “I did it” backdrop. Stone lettering, trees and seasonal blooms make it bold and instantly recognisable. Sit on the ledge in your regalia, especially in fall colour or spring blossom, when the colours do the heavy lifting for you.
5. The Portico on Johnston Green.
Saved from demolition and quietly standing as one of the most meaningful pieces of architecture on campus. A subtle history nod, the kind of “only we get it” framing that makes alumni feel something. No crowds, all character.
4. The Gryphon statue.
You probably thought this would be number one. It is great, genuinely great, but it is also the spot everyone has a picture at, so we saved the more personal ones for the top. The Gryphon is still a rite of passage. Just make yours count.
3. Johnston Hall.
The historic stone façade, the arched entrances and the clock tower give your images a timeless U of G feel no other spot matches. It sits in the middle of campus, so you move between locations without losing shooting time, and the neutral stone photographs beautifully in sun and in overcast light.
2. Alumni Walk.
There is a reason this one lands at number two. Alumni Walk is built for movement: the walking shot, the candid stride, the moment between moments. It is the visual metaphor of walking into the future, and it photographs like it knows it. One of the most cinematic spots on campus.

The people who have been there through your ups and your downs, the ones who made this place home for all these years. Take a photo with them. Laugh. Share gratitude. Share love. No backdrop will ever matter more than who is standing next to you in it.
