Family in Your Photos.
How to bring parents, siblings and grandparents into part of your grad session: family joins for a portion, you keep your solo time, and a little planning makes it easy for everyone.
This milestone is theirs too.
Somebody drove the moving boxes to residence in first year. Somebody answered the 11 p.m. phone calls before midterms, kept every report card, and is already planning what to frame. Grad photos are about you, but the degree has co-authors, and the best sessions we do make room for them.
Bringing parents, siblings or grandparents into part of your session is one of the easiest upgrades a grad can make, and it costs nothing but a few minutes of planning. Here is how it works on the University of Guelph campus.
How it works.
Family joins for a portion of the session, and you keep the rest for yourself. The rhythm that works best: we photograph you solo first, while your family trails along and watches (parents love this part more than they admit), then we bring everyone in for the final stretch, usually the last 15 to 20 minutes. You get your full set of solo portraits, and the day still ends with everyone in the frame.
Within that family time we work through combinations quickly and without fuss: you with both parents, you with each parent alone, the sibling photos, grandparents seated with you beside them, and one of everybody. If there is a combination that matters to you, tell us at the start and it will not get missed.
What it costs.
If your family is joining your solo session for a portion of the photos, there is no extra per-person charge. Your parents stepping into a few frames does not change your price.
The per-person group rates you may have seen on our pricing sheet are for something different: several grads booking together, each getting their own portraits and their own gallery. One grad plus a supporting cast is simply a solo session with better company.

Make it easy for grandparents.
Some of the most treasured photos we deliver are three generations in one frame. A little planning makes the afternoon comfortable for the people who have been proud of you the longest.
- Seating along the route. There is a bench right in front of the Portico and low stone walls throughout the historic part of campus. We plan spots where grandparents can sit between photos, and seated poses often end up being the favourites anyway.
- Shorter walking routes. Johnston Hall and the Portico sit within a few steps of each other, with lawns and brick walkways close by. Tell us mobility matters and we will build the session around one compact area instead of a campus tour.
- Join for the finale. Grandparents do not need to be there for the whole session. Have them arrive for the last stretch, walk one short route, and be done in twenty minutes.
- Ask us about drop-off. Campus roads allow you to get surprisingly close to the photo spots. Mention it when you book and we will suggest the easiest drop-off point for your meeting spot.
A few combinations worth planning for.
- A parent straightening your hood. Posed once, then it turns real on its own.
- Each parent alone with you. These are the frames that end up on their desks, not yours.
- Siblings being siblings. The formal one first, then whatever happens next.
- Three generations on one bench. Ten seconds to set up, framed for decades.
- The whole crew mid-laugh on a brick walkway, gown billowing, nobody looking at the camera.
