Guelph Grad Photos · FAQ
Grad photo questions, answered.
The questions grads actually ask us, from pricing and deposits to rain, regalia and how your gallery works.
Booking and pricing
How much does a session cost?
We run two packages, and the price is per person. Solo, Signature is $200 for an hour and Premium is $300 for two. Book with a friend and Signature is $180 each. The per-person price keeps falling as the group grows, down to $90 each for Signature at twelve people.
Every group size with its exact price is on the grad photos page. Thirteen or more is a custom quote, so send us a message and we will put one together.
What is the difference between Signature and Premium?
Mostly time, and how much you come away with. Signature covers three campus spots, with 10 edited photos and 70+ unedited. Premium is the longest session we do and covers six spots, with 30 edited and 150+ unedited.
Premium also adds a champagne pop, three Polaroid prints, first pick of golden hour and a LinkedIn headshot. Both include your gown and hood, the 48-hour sneak peek and the 7-day gallery.
Is the champagne pop real champagne?
No. We bring a non-alcoholic sparkling drink in a glass bottle with a sealed cork and shoot the moment it pops, spray and all. The University of Guelph does not allow open alcohol on campus, and a sealed glass bottle pops safely, so this is how every champagne pop on campus is done.
It is for the photo, not for drinking. How big the spray is depends on the shake and the pop, and we walk you through it on the day.
Do you need a deposit, and when do I pay the rest?
Yes. A $50 non refundable deposit secures your date and comes off your final total. It is what takes the slot off the calendar.
The balance is due on the day of your session, not before. You can pay it however suits you.
When should I book?
As early as you can, and certainly as soon as your exam schedule is confirmed. Convocation season fills first, and within it the best times of day go first.
You do not need your ceremony date to book a campus session. Most grads shoot on a different day entirely, rather than rushing between the stage and a photographer. More on timing in when to book.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Yes. Your confirmation email has a link to manage your booking. From there you can move your session once, to a date within 30 days of the original, until 7 days before it starts. A second move, or a move inside the last 7 days, is a request we do our best with.
You can cancel online at any time: with 7 days’ notice or more we keep only the deposit, and with less than 7 days’ notice there is also a late-cancellation fee of $100 for each hour you booked, charged to your saved card. Questions? Message us.
Can we add someone to the group after we book?
Usually yes, and it is worth doing, because the per-person price falls as the group grows.
Tell us as soon as you know and we will update the booking and your price. Another person can also add time to the session, so the earlier you say, the easier it is to fit.
Your session
Where are sessions held?
Primarily on the University of Guelph campus, at spots like Johnston Hall, Alumni Walk, the Portico and the Gryphon statue. Custom off campus locations are available, with travel fees.
Our guide to the top 7 campus spots walks through the best ones and why they work, and every spot we shoot is mapped zone by zone.
Do you shoot indoors?
Yes. We shoot all around campus, inside as well as out, the library included. Covered and indoor spots also give us shelter on a rainy day.
If there is a building that matters to you, tell us when you book and we will build it into the route.
How do I get a golden hour slot?
Golden hour is the hour before sunset, and it is the most requested time we offer, so it goes first. On the booking calendar those slots are marked in red.
The exact hour moves through the year, so choose your date first and the calendar will show you the golden hour times for it. Premium sessions get first pick. More in golden hour, explained.
What happens if it rains?
Your session goes ahead. Rain and cloud usually make the best photos: soft, even light, none of the harsh shadows the sun makes, and nobody squinting. We bring matching umbrellas for everyone and have things ready so your session runs smoothly, and a rainy grad photo makes a great memory too. We would never risk our own equipment getting water damaged, so rest assured we are well prepared for rain.
The one exception is heavy rain or dangerous conditions. We watch the forecast for every session, and if either is expected we reach out as early as we can and move your session to a new date within two months, at no charge. Weather is rescheduled, not refunded, and light rain or wind is not a reason to move or cancel. In peak season the next open date can be a few weeks away, which is one more reason we shoot in the rain. The full plan is on the weather page.
Where do we meet on the day?
We meet at the Gryphon statue, at the Gordon Street and Stone Road entrance to campus, and plan the route from there. Your reminder emails name it too, so there is nothing to look up on the morning.
If you are driving, say so and we will point you at the nearest visitor parking. After you book covers the rest.
What should I wear and bring?
A suit works well, as does a white or off white dress, but anything that feels like you will photograph beautifully. Casual outfits, cords, medals and family props all add variety.
Our shoot day guide covers outfits, colours that photograph best, and a full packing list for the day.
Where do I get my gown and hood?
Your gown and hood are included with every campus session, Signature and Premium alike, so there is nothing to rent and nothing to collect before the day. Tell us your degree and your height when you book and we bring the right hood for your program.
If you already own your regalia, or you would rather arrange your own, that works just as well. The University of Guelph Bookstore rents them at bookstore.uoguelph.ca, or call 519-824-4120 ext. 53715.
We forgot the LinkedIn headshots (or the Polaroids, or the champagne pop). Can we get a refund?
No, not if your session ran its full booked length. Extras such as the LinkedIn headshot, the Polaroid prints and the champagne pop happen during your session, so it is up to you and your group to ask for them while there is time. If one was not used, there is no refund, credit or other compensation.
The one exception: if we cut your session short and that is why an extra was missed, we make it right with a return visit for that extra or a credit. Tell us within 7 days. This applies to bookings made on or after 23 October 2026; see section 9 of our Terms of Service.
Friends and family
Can my family or partner be in the photos?
Yes, and they often are. A solo session is built around you, but there is always room for a few frames with your parents, your partner or your friends, and that costs nothing extra.
What a solo session does not cover is portraits of them without you. More in family in your photos.
Can a friend who is not graduating come along?
Of course. If they are not wearing regalia and do not need portraits of their own, they are welcome to join and there is nothing to pay for them.
If they do want their own grad photos, that makes them a second person on the booking, and the per-person price comes down for both of you.
Is there a second photographer for a big group?
Yes, from seven people up, at no extra cost. A second photographer means everyone gets their own frames without the day running long.
Group sessions are our favourite kind, and the per-person price is at its lowest there. The group guide covers how to organise one.
Your photos
How long until I get my photos?
A small set of finished photos lands within 48 hours of the shoot, so you have something to post straight away. Your complete gallery, ready to view and download, follows within 7 days.
In our peak season (April, June, September and October) your gallery may take longer than usual. Our team is working hard to give everyone the best edits, so we appreciate your patience and kindly ask that you avoid messaging us to check on delivery: we email you the moment your gallery is ready.
Every package includes both. How the gallery reaches you is on the delivery policy page.
How many photos do I get?
Signature includes 10 edited photos and 70+ unedited. Premium includes 30 edited and 150+ unedited, plus a champagne pop on camera, Polaroid prints and a LinkedIn headshot.
The edited photos are in addition to the unedited ones, not picked out of them. Those numbers are a floor rather than a target, and we hand over more where the session gives us more.
Who chooses which photos get edited?
Either you or we do, depending on your session, and your gallery says which. When the choice is yours, open any photo in All Images once your photos are up and press Choose for editing, until you have chosen the number of edited photos your package includes, then send your picks from the Edit requests tab. After that your picks cannot be changed, and we edit exactly those. Otherwise we go through everything from the session and pick the strongest frames to retouch and colour grade.
If there is a shot you love that did not make the edit, open it in All Images and press Signature edit. Your gallery shows how many signature edits you have.
Can I ask for a change to an edit?
Yes. Every edited photo in your Highlights has a Re-edit button, and you can leave a note saying what you would like different, whether that is a distracting object in the background, a crop, or anything you are not happy with.
We would much rather hear about it than have you assume that is how it was meant to look.
How many photos can I download?
All of them. Your gallery has no download limit, so you can download every photo in it, as often as you like.
Download on a desktop rather than a phone, which handles a large gallery far better.
Download All saves each photo as its own file, so your browser may ask whether guelphgradphotos.com can download several files at once. Choose Allow. If you chose Block the first time, allow it in the address bar and press Download All again: the button always works, and simply asks before saving your photos a second time.
How long does my gallery stay up?
Your gallery stays live and re-downloadable for the archive period that came with your package, and the exact date is shown inside it. After that date we may take the gallery down.
Please save your own copy as soon as the gallery lands, and treat ours as a convenience rather than your only copy.
Other sessions
Do you shoot anything other than grad photos?
Yes. Graduation is what we are known for, but we also shoot headshots, families, couples, events, and clubs and faculty groups, with the same photographers and the same editing.
We travel beyond Guelph as well. Tell us what you have in mind and where, and we will quote it.
Still not sure? Just ask.
If your question is not here, send it over. We answer every message ourselves, usually the same day.
